Dynamo Dresden vs Paderborn
Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion is the venue as Dynamo Dresden and Paderborn face off against each other in the opening DFB Pokal round.
An overwhelming 3-0 triumph over Ingolstadt fired Dynamo Dresden off to a flying start to the 2021/22 season before an encouraging 1-1 away draw with German powerhouse Hamburger SV last time out. SGD strolled to the top of the 3. Liga in 2020/21, finishing the season top of the table with a comfortable four-point lead over closest followers. Taking last season into account, the hosts are riding on an eight-match unbeaten streak in all competitions (W6, D2), a sequence that saw them keep seven clean sheets! What’s more, including friendlies, Alexander Schmidt’s men have racked up a seven-game winning run at home since going down 3-0 to Hallescher in late April. Notably, five of those triumphs yielded a winning margin of 2+ goals, with Dynamo netting 3+ goals four times in the process.
In the meantime, Paderborn have started the 2021/22 campaign with back-to-back draws following an underwhelming mid-table finish in the 2. Bundesliga last term. As a result, the visitors take the field on the back of a four-match winless streak in all competitions (D3, L1) despite scoring the opener three times in that period, 2020/21 included. Including friendlies, Lukas Kwasniok’s men are on a four-match wait for an away win (D3, L1), with three of those contests featuring under 2.5 total goals. It will be a daunting prospect for Paderborn to halt that streak here, considering they’ve failed to win at Munich 1860 in the last three attempts in a row (D1, L2). High scoring was a common theme across those encounters as all three saw over 2.5 goals and both teams scoring.
