England vs Greece

Wembley Stadium sets the stage for a top-table UEFA Nations League B2 six-pointer between England and Greece.

England’s life in the post-Gareth Southgate era has been off to a dream start, with caretaker boss Lee Carsely overseeing back-to-back 2-0 wins against Finland and Ireland at the beginning of the Three Lions’ first-ever League B campaign. In addition to reinvigorating England’s frontlines following their dire form toward the end of Southgate’s regime, Carsley has solidified his team’s defense, leading to England keeping two consecutive clean sheets for the first time since June 2023. Hellbent on making amends for a disastrous League A campaign in the last cycle (D3, L3), Carsley’s charges bid to extend their imperious nine-game H2H record against upcoming rivals Greece (W7, D2) and, in turn, leapfrog them into the top of Group B2. Slow starts could impede their momentum, with England failing to score before halftime in nine of their last 14 internationals.

On the other hand, Greece will touch down in London, searching for their first-ever triumph against England despite seeing the odds firmly stacked against them. That’s likely the consequence of their dreadful scoring record in this fixture, with the Greeks drawing a blank in seven of their nine previous clashes against the Three Lions. However, head coach Ivan Jovanovic has managed to solve Greece’s scoring crisis during his early days in charge, with the visitors winning their opening two Group B2 fixtures 3-0 and 2-0, respectively. A 2-0 win against Malta in their final warm-up outing ahead of this Nations League cycle kickstarted their three-match winning streak – their longest run of victories since June 2022. That record faces imminent threat at Wembley, with Greece losing five of their last six games against higher-ranked opposition by FIFA (W1).
