Germany vs England

Allianz Arena in Munich will play host to a blockbuster UEFA Nations League showdown between Germany and England.

Germany fought back to hold Italy to a 1-1 away draw in their group stage opener last time out. Manager Hansi Flick has maintained his unbeaten start to his touchline career at the national team (W8, D2). But after winning his first eight matches at the helm, a brace of 1-1 draws sounds like a slight decline. However, a home return could come in handy, with ‘Die Mannschaft’ netting an average of 4.75 goals per match across their last four home outings and conceding just once. Another success here would see Germany register five international home triumphs on the trot for the first time since June 2017 – a sequence that incidentally included a narrow 1-0 win over England.

In the meantime, England slipped to an unexpected 1-0 defeat away to Hungary in their Group A3 curtain-raiser, ending an impressive run of 21 internationals without losing inside 90 minutes (W17, D4). But the ‘There Lions’ hold fond memories of their most recent meeting with Germany, having claimed a 2-0 win in their Euro 2020 last-16 H2H. Since finishing runners-up to Italy at Euro 2020, England had won three of their four away internationals (D1) before losing to Hungary last time out. However, Gareth Southgate’s men are now winless in their last three away Nations League fixtures (D1, L2), failing to get on the scoresheet on each occasion.
