Getafe vs Elche

The two struggling sides will trade tackles at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez as Getafe take on Elche in a bottom-half La Liga showdown.

A thoroughly underwhelming start to the season, which includes three defeats from three La Liga matches, accompanied by a single goal scored, places Getafe well in the drop zone going into this clash. A potential reverse here would see ‘El Geta’ mark the worst start to a new campaign in their top-flight history. Additionally, it would equal their worst-ever losing streak in La Liga (4). On the bright side, though, Getafe have suffered just one defeat in six top-flight H2Hs (W2, D3), with each of their three such encounters at this venue ending as a draw. There is not much reason for optimism among the home supporters, considering Michel’s side’s disastrous form in 2021. Getafe have picked up just five wins from 26 La Liga outings this calendar year (D6, L15).

On the other hand, Elche have struggled to impress in the early exchanges this La Liga season (D2, L1), and they look to be on course of another season-long battle against the drop. After avoiding relegation by a mere two points last season, the visitors have continued to struggle in the attacking third this term, netting just once in three La Liga fixtures. A lack of firepower up front has seen Elche score a miserly average of just 0.8 goals per game across their last ten La Liga outings. ‘Los Franjiverdes’ can’t find much comfort in their away form either, having claimed just one win in their previous 18 top-flight matches on the road (D3, L14). Equally worrying is the fact they kept just one clean sheet during that sequence.
