Inter Milan vs Atalanta
Stadio Giuseppe Meazza sets the stage for a mouth-watering Serie A contest between table-topping Inter Milan and top-four hopefuls Atalanta.
Runaway Serie A leaders Inter cemented their title credentials with an overwhelming 4-0 triumph at Lecce last weekend, extending their outrageous start to 2024 to ten consecutive victories across all competitions. Nine points clear of runners-up Juventus with a game in hand, ‘I Nerazzurri’ will be out to entertain the Meazza faithful and possibly increase a mind-blowing average of 2.5 goals per game this league campaign. Simone Inzaghi’s side reached a flattering piece of history in Puglia, marking the first time since 1947 that Inter have won three successive top-flight matches whilst scoring 4+ goals. Now eager to build on that patch, last season’s beaten Champions League finalists take the field in search of a fourth straight win against Atalanta for the first time since a six-game winning streak between 1997 and 2001.
On the other hand, Atalanta eked out a point against Inter’s arch-rivals AC Milan last weekend as Teun Koopmeiners’ first-half penalty rescued a 1-1 draw in one of La Dea’s worst Serie A displays of 2024. But unbeaten in all ten matches since Christmas (W8, D2), Gian Piero Gasperini’s men are keen to prove they’re no pushovers and consolidate their pursuit of a first top-four finish in three years. In order to achieve that, Atalanta must defy history and post their first win at Meazza in nearly a decade. That’s easier said than done, especially considering they’ve only registered one win on their last six Serie A travels (D3, L2) and are yet to keep a clean sheet in competitive away action in 2024.
