Jeonbuk Motors vs Suwon
Jeonju World Cup Stadium is the venue as Jeonbuk Motors and Suwon go head-to-head in an intriguing K League 1 showdown.
Despite spurning a halftime lead in a goal-glutted 2-2 draw at Daejeon in midweek K League 1 action, Jeonbuk’s pursuit of playoff qualification is still on track as they start this round four points clear of seventh-placed Daejeon. A three-game unbeaten league run in the build-up to this fixture (W2, D1) will probably inspire more confidence in Dan Petrescu’s camp as his men seek another top-flight double over Suwon. A 3-1 win in the reverse fixture at home marked Jeonbuk’s fourth win in their last five H2Hs (L1), with all four previous results seeing the winner on the day keep a clean sheet. Interestingly, as one of the best first-half performers, the ‘Warriors’ have yet to find themselves down at halftime at home this term (HT: W3, D8).
On the other hand, Suwon finished on the receiving end of an embarrassing 7-2 scoreline at Seoul on Wednesday, extending their woeful winless K League 1 run to six matches (D2, L4). Worryingly for head coach Kim Do-kyun, his men conceded at least two goals in five of those six games at an average of 3.16 per fixture. Things tend to go from bad to worse away from home, as witnessed by Suwon’s dreadful run of five defeats from six top-flight travels since the start of May (W1), four of which saw them concede 3+ goals. A slow start would pave the way for another disappointment, with Suwon losing five out of six away league outings when trailing at the break (D1).
