Juventus vs Porto

Juventus welcome Porto to the Allianz Stadium for the return leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie, looking to overturn a 2-1 first-leg deficit.

Juventus have won both of their home Champions League meetings with Porto. Overall, they have only lost one of their six European clashes against the Portuguese powerhouse (W4, D1), courtesy of a 2-1 defeat in the first leg. Worryingly, ‘I Bianconeri’ have suffered elimination in five of their previous six Champions League ties in which they lost the first leg. However, Andrea Pirlo’s men have only lost twice in their last 12 home matches in the Champions League knock-out stages (W8, D2). In 2021 alone, the reigning Serie A champions have won all but two of their ten competitive games in Turin (D2), with each success in that sequence coming by at least a two-goal margin. Curiously, none of Juve’s last 14 Champions League outings have ended in a draw (W11, L3), with eight of those wins/losses yielding a clean sheet.

Since defeating AC Milan in 1996, Porto have lost each of their subsequent five Champions League trips to Italy. Additionally, the visitors have failed to win any of their previous 13 away fixtures in the Champions League knock-out stages (D4, L9), with their last such success dating back to 2003. Interestingly, ‘Azuis e Brancos’ have lost each of their three previous Champions League knock-out ties in which they secured a first-leg triumph. Furthermore, Sérgio Conceição’s men have failed to keep a clean sheet in 17 of their last 19 away games in the competition’s knock-out stages. Yet, they are now looking to register three consecutive shutouts in the Champions League for the first time since November 2012. Topically, five of their last six games in the competition proper have seen one or both sides fail to find the net.
