Leeds United vs Tottenham Hotspur
Leeds United’s bid to secure Premier League survival will go down to the wire as they entertain out-of-sorts Tottenham Hotspur at Elland Road on the final weekend.
Except for a thumping 3-1 home victory in May 2021, Leeds have gone winless in nine of their last ten Premier League meetings with Tottenham (D1, L8), derailing their hopes of avoiding relegation to the Championship on the final day. With 17th-placed Everton two points clear at the start of the ultimate round, the ‘Whites’ must end an ominously-looking eight-game winless league streak (D2, L6) and pray Bournemouth walk away from Goodison Park undefeated. Since a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at the start of April, Sam Allardyce’s men have gone winless in their last four home league outings (D2, L2), conceding an alarming average of 3.5 goals per game! But on a more positive note, the hosts have lost their final league match in just one of the last ten seasons, including three triumphs in a row.
On the other hand, last weekend’s dreadful 3-1 home defeat to Brentford saw Tottenham drop out of the European promotion spots going into the season finale. With seventh-placed Aston Villa a point away, ‘Spurs’ are at risk of missing out on continental football for the first time since 2009/10 even if they end a two-game losing run at Elland Road. But that’s easier said than done, with Ryan Mason’s side going winless on their last seven Premier League travels (D2, L5), including three losses on the spin in the build-up to this trip. Considering they’ve conceded two or more goals in four of their last five away league matches, Tottenham must be terrified of their curtain-dropping trip to Yorkshire.
