Leicester City vs Blackburn Rovers
Leicester City’s pursuit of a second FA Cup grand final appearance in three years continues at the King Power Stadium as second-tier Blackburn Rovers come to town.
Even though a 1-0 home loss to Premier League leaders Arsenal at the weekend left them only three points clear of the relegation zone, marking their second consecutive league defeat ‘to nil,’ Leicester City can still look forward to this fixture. Brendan Rodgers’ charges have won both FA Cup matches this season by the same 1-0 scoreline, dispatching lower-league sides Walsall and Gillingham in the process. Moreover, the ‘Foxes’ have made it out of their last three FA Cup fifth-round ties, courtesy of identical 1-0 victories. If that’s not enough to settle the nerves at the King Power, it’s worth noting that Leicester are unbeaten in their last ten home meetings with Blackburn in all competitions (W6, D4) since a 3-1 loss in 1991!
In the meantime, Blackburn Rovers launched their FA Cup journey with a narrow 1-0 win at fellow EFL Championship rivals Norwich City on day one but needed a replay to get rid of Birmingham City in the previous round, running out 1-0 extra-time victors on the road. After reaching the FA Cup round five for the first time since 2017, the ‘Rovers’ are looking to go one better and qualify for the quarter-finals for the first time since the 2014/15 season. Considering they’ve not lost any of their last five competitive matches on the road (W1, D4 – 90mins only), Jon Dahl Tomasson’s men seemingly possess what it takes to secure a replay at the very least. With four of those five games featuring under 2.5 goals, connoisseurs of action-packed football may want to skip this fixture.
