Leicester City vs Bournemouth

King Power Stadium forms the backdrop for a Premier League relegation six-pointer between Leicester City and Bournemouth.

Not even the club’s decision to part with long-serving manager Brendan Rodgers in the wake of a 2-1 away loss to Crystal Palace helped downtrodden Leicester City to get back on the rails. An underwhelming 2-1 home defeat to Aston Villa in midweek Premier League action condemned the ‘Foxes’ to a disastrous 19th place and a seventh straight league match without a win (D1, L6). Caretaker boss Adam Sadler must pick up the slacks before it’s too late, with Leicester beginning this round two points adrift of safety. Bournemouth’s visit to the East Midlands could make things worse, considering Sadler’s men have lost their last three top-flight clashes against promoted sides. On top of that, the King Power is no longer Leicester’s safe shelter, as they’ve lost their last four competitive home games.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth’s topsy-turvy stretch continued with a 2-0 home defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion last time out, leaving them stuck in the red zone, albeit level on points with 15th-placed West Ham United. Problems with inconsistent performances have seen the ‘Cherries’ alternate between defeats (3) and victories (2) in their last five Premier League matches, a trend they’d gladly maintain this weekend. Following a 2-1 home win in the reverse fixture, Bournemouth could complete their first league double over Leicester since 1988/89, when the teams were in the second division. But despite Leicester’s woeful form, that could be easier said than done. Gary O’Neil’s men have suffered eight defeats in their last nine away league matches (W1) and have only managed one clean sheet across their previous 24 top-flight travels!
