Liechtenstein vs Slovakia

Continental minnows Liechtenstein entertain Slovakia at the Rheinpark Stadion as part of the Euro 2024 qualifying.

It appears highly probable that Liechtenstein is headed for yet another challenge to avoid finishing last in their European Championship qualifying group. Liechtenstein’s campaign commenced with three consecutive defeats, setting the stage for this battle. Despite the absence of an immediate impact from new manager Konrad Fünfstück, their first match under his guidance did yield narrow a margin of defeat in a 2-0 loss to Luxembourg last weekend. That was a notable improvement compared to the previous two qualifying matches, where they conceded a combined 11 goals. Should they suffer another loss, it would mark Liechtenstein’s lengthiest series of consecutive defeats, matching their existing record of 17. Evading that fate hinges on their ability to find the target, considering that they’ve garnered points in the last five home Euro qualifying games in which they scored (W3, D2).

On the other hand, Slovakia enhanced their prospects of qualifying for their third consecutive Euros finals by securing a 2-1 victory against Iceland last time out. Although they are highly likely to maintain their position in the top two by the conclusion of the June fixtures, failing to secure a win against the bottom-ranked team could complicate their path to progression. Despite only managing a draw against Luxembourg in March, Slovakia will approach this upcoming match with optimism, seeking a third straight Euro qualifying triumph in a row for the first time since June 2015. The visitors have never lost an away H2H encounter (W2, D2), although the last match took place over ten years ago. But Slovakia’s recent away form in the Euro qualifying has been promising, featuring four wins and one loss.
