Liverpool vs Luton Town

Anfield is the venue as Liverpool and Luton Town go head-to-head in a lopsided Premier League encounter.

Liverpool’s quest to dethrone Manchester City is back on track following a 3-1 loss to fellow Premier League title rivals Arsenal earlier this month. They’ve won back-to-back league games against Burnley and Brentford via a combined score of 7-2 in the aftermath but enter this match only one point clear of second-placed Man City. Anfield remains the Reds’ safe haven as they’ve racked up an eye-catching ten wins in 12 home league outings this season (D2). Having won their last three such contests, Jurgen Klopp’s men come into proceedings confident of maintaining an imperious run of 11 consecutive league victories on a Wednesday. But they can’t afford to get complacent, knowing they needed a last-gasp equalizer to rescue a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture at Kenilworth Road.

On the other hand, Luton Town made a valiant attempt to beat the odds at the weekend but eventually slumped to a 2-1 home loss to Manchester United, extending their winless run in the Premier League to three matches (D1, L2). Luton’s defensive frailties came to the fore in that sequence, with Rob Edwards’ side reaffirming their reputation as one of the league’s worst defenses by conceding 2+ goals on each occasion. After slipping back into the drop zone, albeit on goal difference alone, leaving their home comforts is the last thing they need, given their dismal 18% win ratio in away league games (W2, D3, L6). As if that’s not troubling enough, the Hatters head to Anfield, where they’ve gone winless in all 16 previous visits (D7, L9).
