Liverpool vs West Ham United

High-flying Liverpool will be looking to maintain their near-perfect Premier League start when they lock horns with West Ham United at Anfield this weekend.

Liverpool jangled their fans’ nerves yet again in midweek Europa League action, conceding first at LASK Linz in their Group E outing, only to put three unanswered second-half goals past the Austrians en route to a comfortable 3-1 victory. Following that same pattern, Jurgen Klopp’s side thumped Wolverhampton at Molineux last weekend, making it four Premier League wins in a row after a 1-1 draw at Chelsea on the opening weekend. However, they’ve grown accustomed to giving their supporters headaches, with three of those four triumphs seeing Liverpool come from behind to seal three points. Klopp is quite familiar with this scenario, having won more Premier League matches (36) and points (138) from losing positions than any other manager in the division since his arrival at Anfield eight years ago.

West Ham’s upcoming visit to Merseyside could offer Liverpool a chance for a less dramatic affair, considering they’ve won six consecutive home league H2Hs since a 2-2 draw in December 2016. Since three of those six encounters saw the ‘Hammers’ fail to get on the scoresheet, David Moyes’ effort to get into the win column in front of Kop for the first time in his managerial career looks far-fetched. Not only has he gone winless on all 20 previous visits to Anfield (D7, L13), but this venue has been a slippery turf for his side down the years. Indeed, the visitors have only secured one win in their last 53 visits to Anfield (D13, L39), losing the most recent two via an identical 1-0 scoreline. But after fighting back from a narrow second-half deficit to beat TSC Backa Topola 3-1 in midweek Europa League action, they’ll feel confident about flipping that script.
