Manchester City vs Inter Milan

The most highly anticipated fixture on the European football calendar takes place at Istanbul’s Atatürk Olimpiyat as Manchester City and Inter Milan battle it out for Champions League glory.

After winning a third straight Premier League title for the first time in the club’s history and overcoming Manchester United in the FA Cup final 2-1, Manchester City could make history this weekend. Not only could they win the Champions League for the first time, but they may become only the second English side to achieve a coveted ‘Treble’ after Sir Alex Ferguson’s Man Utd in 1998/99. Following an emphatic 4-0 win over Real Madrid in the return leg of their semi-final tie, the ‘Citizens’ are odds-on favorites to take home the prize, with Pep Guardiola looking to become only the fifth manager to win the Champions League with two different clubs. Barring a 1-0 defeat at Brentford on the final Premier League day with the title already wrapped up, Man City are unbeaten in 26 of their last 27 competitive outings (W21, D5)!

On the other hand, Inter Milan secured a convincing 3-0 aggregate win over bitter rivals AC Milan in the semi-finals to book their first Champions League final appearance since winning the competition under Jose Mourinho in 2010. Seeking a fourth Champions League title, ‘I Nerazzuri’ come into proceedings amid a purple patch, having won 11 of their last 12 competitive matches (L1), including three on the bounce ahead of the kick-off. A come-from-behind 2-1 win over Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia final forms part of that run but, more importantly, completes manager Simone Inzaghi’s 100% win record in seven managerial finals he’s featured in during his stints at Lazio and Inter. Defensive resilience has highlighted Inter’s stellar European campaign, with Inzaghi’s lads racking up eight clean sheets in 12 Champions League fixtures.
