Manchester United vs PAOK
Manchester United’s sub-par UEFA Europa League campaign continues at Old Trafford with a must-win clash against PAOK.
While waiting for new manager Ruben Amorim to officially take over the reins, Manchester United held Chelsea to a spirited 1-1 Premier League draw after demolishing Leicester City 5-2 in EFL Cup action on Ruud van Nistelrooy’s touchline debut. The interim Red Devils boss will aim to get his side off the mark in the Europa League after three consecutive draws to start the new league phase. Going the distance in Europe’s second-tier competition is perhaps the only saving grace for United, considering the 12 points they’ve managed after ten league games is their worst such total since 1986/87. However, that could be easier said than done, with the Old Trafford outfit running on a six-game winless run in European football (D4, L2)!
Meanwhile, PAOK will be eager to defy the odds at the Theatre of Dreams and get their stuttering Europa League campaign back on track after a goal-glutted 2-2 home draw against Plzen last time out handed them the first point in the league phase (L2). The visitors are in a dire situation heading into this trip, having only won three of their nine previous outings in all competitions (D2, L4)! Against this backdrop, they’ve traveled with confidence this season, suffering just one defeat in ten competitive away games (W7, D2). That said, they’ve lost five of their last six away fixtures in the Europa League (D1) since tasting their last win in October 2018!
