Monza vs AC Milan
Stadio Brianteo is the venue as Monza and AC Milan go head-to-head in a mini-Lombard derby in Serie A.
Left stranded in the Serie A mid-table after picking up just one win in their last five league outings (W2, D2), Monza risk entering the final stretch with nothing to play for. Raffaele Palladino’s men frustratingly drew 0-0 against a downtrodden Hellas Verona at home last weekend but maintained a substantial 11-point cushion on the bottom three. But that match unequivocally confirmed Monza’s toothlessness in the front third, which has seen them draw a blank in three of their last five league outings and score precisely one in the other two. Another low-scoring performance could be in store for ‘I Biancorossi’ as they’ve netted just one in their three Serie A showdowns against Milan, succumbing to a disastrous 3-0 defeat in the reverse fixture in mid-December.
In the meantime, Milan will take the field in high spirits following a dominant 3-0 home triumph against Rennes in midweek Europa League action to take their unbeaten streak in all competitions to six games (W5, D1). But despite winning six of their last seven Serie A matches (D1), the visitors’ Scudetto hopes are practically dead in the water, as they trail table-topping Inter Milan by 11 points. ‘I Rossoneri’ will, nonetheless, look to hold up their end of the bargain and make it four Serie A away victories for the first time this season. Milan’s free-scoring form has seen them bag 2+ goals on their last eight competitive travels, including three in Serie A, which puts them on the brink of history. They could score at least twice in four consecutive away games in the competition for the first time!
