Nurnberg vs Arsenal
Arsenal’s pre-season campaign gets underway at the Max-Morlock-Stadion as they meet German side-tier strugglers Nurnberg.
It’s been a decent pre-season for Nurnberg so far, as they’ve racked up two wins from three summer friendlies (D1), netting 2+ goals in the last two. Bringing the tail-end of the 2022/23 Bundesliga 2. campaign into the equation, Cristian Fiel’s men are unbeaten in seven consecutive games (W3, D4), six of which saw Nurnberg get on the scoresheet. Despite entering this fixture as significant underdogs, ‘Der Club’ should be confident about maintaining their free-scoring form, at least based on a goal-glutted 53 defeat in their only previous H2H against Arsenal in July 2022. But they’ll need a miracle to avoid their first defeat since a 3-0 demolition at the hands of Hannover in late April.
On the other hand, Arsenal capped off an impressive 2022/23 Premier League season with an overwhelming 5-0 home win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on the final matchday, snapping a two-game losing league run ‘to nil.’ Despite securing their first top-four finish since 2015/16, the ‘Gunners’ still have a bitter taste in their mouth after surrendering the title to Manchester City, even though they were at the head of the queue for most of the season. However, Mikel Arteta’s men have stuttered on the road lately, picking up just one win on their last five travels (D2, L2) while conceding over 1.5 goals on three occasions. It’s worth noting that a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on their most recent trip marked Arsenal’s first scoring blank in nine away matches, all competitions included.
