PSG vs Angers

Runaway Ligue 1 leaders PSG entertain basement boys Angers at the Parc des Princes in what promises to be a one-sided affair.

Christophe Galtier’s understrength PSG side eased past lower-league side Chateauroux 3-1 in the weekend’s Coupe de France to bounce back from an identical defeat at the hands of fellow Ligue 1 title hopefuls Lens last time out. That result knocked PSG down from an eye-catching 16-match unbeaten top-flight start (W14, D2), reducing the gap between them and second-placed Lens to four points. Back to the Parc des Princes, where they’ve won all but one of their eight league outings this season (D1), including the last six in a row, ‘Les Parisiens’ are looking to maintain a mightily impressive 23-game unbeaten H2H record against Angers in Ligue 1 (W16, D7). Indeed, the Parc des Princes has been an unbreachable fortress, with PSG avoiding defeat in their last 30 Ligue 1 home games (W26, D4).

In the meantime, Angers may have ousted Strasbourg from their Coupe de France at the weekend via penalties, but their hopes of securing Ligue 1 survival are hanging by a thread. Nailed to the bottom of the table, a staggering seven points away from safety, the visitors head into proceedings on the back of a disastrous nine-game losing league streak. Additionally, Abdelaziz Bouhazama’s men have failed to get on the scoresheet in their last three top-flight fixtures and run the risk of making four on the trot in Ligue 1 for the first time since 1981. That’s particularly concerning given that they’ve conceded a whopping  37 goals after 17 games in Ligue 1 in 2022/23, their highest total at this stage of a top-flight season since 1970/71!
