PSG vs Juventus

Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus are set to trade tackles at the Parc des Princes in their mouth-watering Champions League Group H opener.

Despite boasting a formidable squad and strength in depth, Champions League glory has proved elusive for PSG, though they’ve made it through the competition’s group stages at the last ten attempts. Nothing should change this term as Christophe Galtier’s men take the field in high spirits following a sensational six-match start to the new Ligue 1 season (W5, D1). Inspired by a 3-0 league thumping of Nantes over the weekend, ‘Les Parisiens’ will be out to defy their underwhelming eight-match winless record against Juventus in major European competitions (D2, L6). Despite losing their last six continental H2Hs in a row, PSG can draw confidence from their sublime home form in the Champions League that’s seen them lose just once in their previous 30 group stage fixtures at the Parc des Princes (W24, D5).

On the other hand, Juventus’ bid to improve on back-to-back Serie A fourth-place finishes has been off to a disappointing start, with ‘I Bianconeri’ drawing three of their opening five league matches (W2). Despite holding Fiorentina to a 1-1 draw with just one shot on target, Massimiliano Allegri has become an unpopular figure amongst the Allianz Stadium faithful after his side failed to score more than once in three of their last four Serie A outings. Therefore, the upcoming trip to Paris could serve as a welcoming distraction, with the Italians racking up a phenomenal 15 wins from their previous 17 Champions League group stage fixtures. On top of that, Allegri has never failed to navigate his teams out of the competition’s group phase, reaching the knock-out rounds at all ten attempts thus far.
