PSG vs Lyon

PSG and Lyon will face each other in another Ligue 1 classic at the Parc des Princes.

Despite succumbing to a shock 2-0 home loss to Rennes on the eve of March’s international break, PSG head into proceedings seven points clear atop the Ligue 1 table at the start of this round. With a fifth top-flight title from the last six seasons looming, ‘Les Parisiens’ should be unfazed by the recent setback as they aim to build on a phenomenal 14-game league form against Lyon (W11, D2, L1) and avoid losing back-to-back home matches in Ligue 1 for the first time since April 2021. But complacency has been a problem for Christophe Galtier’s side of late, as they’ve lost four of their 12 league games in 2023, already more defeats than 35 matches in the whole of 2022.

In the meantime, seven-time Ligue 1 champions Lyon are no longer a formidable force they once were, yet a four-game unbeaten league run on the eve of the international break could bolster their spirits (W1, D3). Stuck in mid-table lethargy, ‘Les Gones’ are unlikely to make a late push for European qualification, especially with fifth-placed Rennes already nine points away. But the visitors have rediscovered their scoring touch since Ligue 1’s resumption after the World Cup, netting a league-high 16 goals in that span. Lyon’s free-scoring form, coupled with an eye-catching run of one defeat in their last nine league games (W4, D4), may inspire their bid to post a second win in their last three top-flight visits to PSG (W1, L1).
