RB Leipzig vs Freiburg

Red Bull Arena forms the backdrop for a mouth-watering top-six Bundesliga six-pointer between RB Lepizig and Freiburg.

RB Leipzig strolled to a 3-1 victory at TSG Hoffenheim last weekend and will take the field on the back of four consecutive wins in all competitions. Indeed, since a 3-0 defeat at Borussia Monchengladbach in mid-September, ‘Die Roten Bullen’ have gone from strength to strength, racking up an illustrious 11-match unbeaten run in competitive football (W9, D2). That includes four wins and two draws in six league fixtures, which has helped them climb to within only three points of fourth-placed Borussia Dortmund. Adding to Leipzig’s burgeoning confidence, they have won their last five Bundesliga home outings via an aggregate score of 14-2 since an action-packed 2-2 draw with Cologne in their first home league match of the 2022/23 season. Marco Rose’s frontline performs like clockwork at the Red Bull Arena, where they’ve scored 2+ goals in all six Bundesliga games this term.

As for Freiburg, last weekend’s 2-0 romping of Cologne at home did not only mark their third straight Bundesliga win but helped them stay within a one-point distance of pacesetters Bayern Munich ahead of this round. ‘Breisgau-Brasilianer’ cruised to a 2-0 win at warm relegation candidates Schalke on their most recent Bundesliga travel to end a three-game winless away league run (D2, L1). It moved them back into the win column in terms of top-flight away fixtures for the first time since winning three in a row between August and September. However, the Red Bull Arena has not been a happy hunting ground for Freiburg by any stretch of the imagination, with Christian Streich’s side still waiting for their first-ever top-flight triumph at this venue after six failed attempts (D2, L4).
