Roma vs Bologna

Stadio Olimpico plays host to an intriguing Serie A match-up between Roma and Bologna.

Fatigue could be catching up with Roma, who were held to a 1-1 draw at Leicester City in the first leg of their Europa Conference League semi-final tie in midweek. Jose Mourinho’s men are winless in their last three competitive matches (D2, L1), and another failed attempt to land all three points could see them lose ground on fifth-placed Lazio. ‘I Giallorossi’ found themselves on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline in the reverse fixture at Dall’Ara and could suffer their first league double to Bologna since 1966/67. Moreover, Roma, who have scored in their last 15 matches across all competitions, could draw a blank in consecutive league meetings with Bologna for the first time since 1977. That shouldn’t be the case here, as Roma have netted in 14 of their 17 Serie A home outings this season.

In the meantime, Bologna stunned Scudetto challengers Inter Milan 2-1 last time out, courtesy of Ionut Radu’s giveaway, taking their unbeaten streak in Serie A to five matches (W2, D3). Destined for another mid-table finish, ‘I Rossoblu’ will be hope to save some dignity and post their first Serie A away win in 2022. Indeed, Sinisa Mihajlovic’s men have picked up the joint-fewest points away from home in the second half of the season (D3, L4). A lack of firepower up top has seen Bologna draw a blank in three of their seven Serie A road trips this calendar year, netting precisely once per game on the remaining four. Playing in the capital has not been Bologna’s thing, as they’ve won just one of their last 16 trips to either Roma or Lazio (D4, L11).
