Roma vs Dynamo Kyiv

Stadio Olimpico is the venue as Roma and Dynamo Kyiv go head-to-head in a must-win UEFA Europa League showdown.

Last season’s Europa League semi-finalists have got the new season off to a difficult start, throwing away a halftime lead in a 1-1 home draw against Athletic Bilbao before slumping to a 1-0 defeat at Elfsborg last time out. On top of that, Roma suffered their first Serie A loss under new manager Ivan Juric at the weekend, going down 1-0 to Inter Milan on this ground (W2, D1). Winless in four consecutive Europa League games (D2, L2), ‘I Giallorossi’ head into proceedings desperate to bounce back and halt a run of three competitive outings without winning (D1, L2). However, that’s perhaps easier said than done, with Roma picking up just two wins in ten matches across all competitions this season (D5, L3).

On the other hand, a pair of defeats by 2+ goals ‘to nil’ at the hands of Roma’s fierce rivals Lazio and TSG Hoffenheim saw Dynamo Kyiv end the first two rounds as one of only two Europa League teams yet to put a single point on the board. However, the visitors have regained confidence with back-to-back league wins ‘to one’ since, setting themselves up nicely for this road trip. But the abovementioned loss to Roma’s city rivals Lazio marked Dynamo Kyiv’s 25th winless outing in 26 against Serie A clubs (D8, L17). But it’s worth noting that their only win in that sequence came against none other than Roma in 2004.
