Sheffield United vs Arsenal

Bramall Lane is the venue as rock-bottom Sheffield United and title-chasing Arsenal go head-to-head in a lopsided Premier League contest.

Sheffield United’s faltering bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League took another tumble last weekend as a 1-0 defeat at Wolverhampton condemned them to a second straight league loss without a reply. Left at the bottom of the table, a whopping 11 points adrift of safety, United’s players Vinícius Souza and Jack Robinson engaged in a heated altercation at Molineux, perhaps best illustrating the current mood at Bramall Lane. The Blades’ impending home return will not inspire much confidence either, considering they’ve lost their last two home league encounters against sides embroiled in European competitions via an identical 5-0 scoreline. Moreover, Chris Wilder’s men have conceded multiple goals in all four home outings (D1, L3) since a 1-0 win against Brentford in December.

In the meantime, Arsenal solidified their quest for their first Premier League title in two decades with another emphatic 4-1 thumping of Newcastle United at home. Mikel Arteta’s men have not only won all six league matches at the start of a new calendar year for the first time in the club’s history but made it look easy. Since the last three sides to achieve that feat won the title, the Gunners will take this trip in a confident mood, especially after averaging 4.16 goals per league game in 2024. With Liverpool and Manchester City winning their weekend assignments, Arsenal can’t afford to rest on their laurels if they’re to whittle down a five-point deficit on the summit. Beating United by an aggregate score of 10-1 in their last three top-flight H2Hs will help preserve the mood as they head to Bramall Lane to extend a three-game winning away league run.
