Spain vs Serbia

Estadio Nuevo Arcángel is the venue as Spain and Serbia go head-to-head in a handsomely-looking UEFA Nations League showdown.

Spain left it late to beat Denmark 1-0 last weekend, extending their near-flawless record in Group A4 (W2, D1). However, the Euro 2024 winners cannot rest easy, knowing only one point separates them from the second-placed Danes ahead of the kick-off. A win against Serbia would still secure Spain’s playoff berth with two games to spare, yet their only slip-up in this Nations League cycle came against this opposition in round one (0-0). They’ll be out to make those wrongs and strengthen their mind-blowing run of only two defeats from 24 internationals under current manager Luis de la Fuente (W20, D2). Yet, ‘La Roja’ would be well-advised not to take anything for granted, considering their overall Nations League record on home soil is anything but awe-inspiring (W6, D1, L2).

Meanwhile, Serbia finally got off the mark in their maiden League A appearance last weekend, overcoming Switzerland 2-0 at home to end a two-game winless start to Group A4 (D1, L1). After scoring their first goals at the highest level, Dragan Stojkovic’s men head to Cordoba, seeking an unlikely success, fresh off ending their manager’s longest winless run since his appointment in 2021 (D3, L2). Worryingly, the Serbs have notoriously struggled in front goal lately, failing to get on the scoresheet in three consecutive matches before toppling the Swiss (D2, L1). That’s an ominous trend, considering they’ve never scored against Spain (D1, L1), suggesting their indifferent away record in the Nations League (W4, D4, L2) is about to worsen.
