St. Louis City vs Inter Miami
CityPark forms the backdrop for a first-ever Major League Soccer showdown between St. Louis City and Inter Miami.
St. Louis City’s bid to finish atop the Western Conference in their maiden MLS season hit a roadblock in midweek league action as they slumped to a woeful 3-0 defeat at fellow top-table rivals Los Angeles. That result halted the home side’s impressive three-game winning MLS run and saw them lead at the summit melt to only two points. Back at the CityPark, where they’ve won 64% of their league matches this season (7/11), St. Louis cannot take anything for granted, considering they’ve blown hot and cold across their last three home outings (W1, D1, L1). However, they could still be hard to contain in the front third, having netted 2+ goals in four out of six MLS home fixtures in the build-up to this match-up.
In the meantime, Inter Miami’s dreadful season in the Eastern Conference continued in midweek as they spurned the lead twice beyond halftime in an action-packed 2-2 draw at DC United. New manager Gerardo Martino may have helped the ‘Herons’ bounce back from an embarrassing seven-game losing MLS run, but he’s still seeking his first victory in charge of Inter. After drawing his first three league matches at the helm, the Argentine needs a miracle to guide the Miami outfit into the playoffs, with Inter lagging 11 points behind 9th-placed Chicago Fire. But with a game in hand, there’s still hope, though they’ll probably need to launch a substantial winning streak to make it happen.
