Strasbourg vs PSG

PSG will be looking to wrap up a record-breaking 11th Ligue 1 title when they meet bottom-half strugglers Strasbourg at the Stade de la Meinau this weekend.

Even though a 1-1 draw at Troyes last time out knocked Strasbourg down from a two-game winning Ligue 1 streak, the hosts are inches away from securing top-flight survival as they hold a six-point lead on 17th-placed Nantes going into the penultimate round. One point will do the trick for ‘Le Racing,’ but they may have to wait for the final day, given their woeful 30-game Ligue 1 record against PSG (W2, D7, L21). On a more positive note, they’ve held Paris winless in six of their last eight top-flight H2Hs at home (W2, D4), including a goal-glutted 3-3 draw in this corresponding fixture in 2021/22. Connoisseurs of action-packed football must be rubbing their hands as four of Strasbourg’s last five home league meetings with Paris have seen over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet.

Having netted 3+ goals on their last two league visits to Strasbourg, PSG ought to take the field in a buoyant mood. A three-game winning run, bookended by a 2-1 win at Auxerre in the previous round, will add to their confidence, as will the fact they’ve won their last six Ligue 1 outings on the road. Not since 2017 (8) had ‘Les Parisiens’ racked up a longer winning streak away from home, so Christophe Galtier will be keen to make it happen this weekend amid growing speculation linking him with a summer exit. Interestingly, four of those six triumphs came ‘to one,’ highlighting the potential for a ‘goal-friendly’ contest. But a slow start could lead to PSG’s demise, as they’ve surprisingly lost all three away league matches after conceding the opening goal this season.
