Young Lions vs Geylang International

Jurong East Stadium plays host to a bottom-half Singapore Premier League showdown between Young Lions and Geylang International.

Young Lions’ faint hopes of avoiding relegation from the Singapore Premier League are fading with each round passing. Indeed, a 4-0 home thumping to Hougang United last time out made it three league defeats in a row. Left with only four top-flight points under their belt, the hosts head into proceedings as the only side in Singapore’s top division yet to smash a 10-point barrier. On top of that, Nazri Nasir’s lads have netted a league-low 15 goals to date, while only Balestier Khalsa (37) have conceded more goals than them (36) to date. But there’s still a silver lining for Young Lions here, as their only top-flight triumph this season saw them dismantle Geylang 4-1 at home in mid-April.

As for Geylang International, last week’s second-half double catapulted them to a 2-0 win away to Balestier, taking their unbeaten Singapore Premier League streak to three games (W2, D1). After ending an abysmal six-game winless start to their new away league campaign (D1, L5), the visitors could now post back-to-back top-flight victories on the road for the first time in over two years. There’s plenty of reason for optimism in the travelling camp, as the ‘Eagles’ had won nine consecutive away league H2Hs before a disheartening 4-2 defeat in this exact fixture last season.
